Three years ago I was working in the advertising industry creating animations for brands. Stop motion animation was considered a complicated process and for big budgets only. I couldn’t understand this as I KNEW it didn’t need to be so complicated and that more brands could benefit from this beautifully fun and engaging medium.
So, I broke away from agencies and decided to put my theory to the test. I created a stripped back approach to creating stop motions for smaller independent brands that didn’t require the big brand budgets.

Q: I’ve never done stop motion before, is this workshop for me?
A: Yes!! In this workshop I cover how to shoot a stop motion with no kit, a simple set up you can do at home, and a demo of animating using just your phone, so beginners are very welcome!
Q: Will I learn how to make specific stop motions in the workshop?
A: Before you can dive in and make stop motions that look professional you need to do some groundwork. This course is primarily about prepping for a stop motion shoot, how to come up with ideas, what kit you’ll need, setting up a simple shoot, composition and lighting. I do a short demo of animating in life lapse but this is not a step by step tutorial (you can access those through the menu on my website).
Q: Does the workshop apply to product photographers?
A: It’s great if you’re ready to expand your skills and start thinking about how stop motion can work for your business. I chat about how to come up with ideas and how to plan for moving image rather than stills. Lighting is also quite different for stop motion as it needs to be consistent, which I cover too.
